Hi David -- it depends really where you're starting out, and what places you plan to visit. Hopefully the routes on this website (and those that I'll be adding in future) will all be of some help though: they're designed to avoid main roads where possible (and I try to warn of busy traffic if it can't be avoided).

You'll find that many of the roads in the Fens themselves are ideal for cyclists, as they're often flat, straight and -- as long as you avoid the main A-roads -- quite quiet. Let me know how you get on, and happy exploring!

I am hoping to visit the fenland areas in May, including the wildlife site at Welney, since we are novice cyclists we feel we need the security of traffic free routes. Any ideas?

That's a very good plan -- you've probably seen my Ely to Littleport route, which takes Branch Bank along the way back, as you suggest. It can be quite blustery though!

Hoping to cycle most of this on a visit to Ely later this month. Looks like a n alternate route back into Ely from Littleport along Branch Bank would avoid the main A10.

Is this a good idea?
