We live in Trumpington and cycled to Orwell because of the recommendation here. We took the route through Grantchester, the bridleway via Cantelupe Farm, then on to Haslingfield, Barrington, and Orwell. Nice day out!

I did a variation of this ride last week, it was fantastic! The A603 wasn't great due to the road being quite busy and also open to the wind, but after that it was really enjoyable. The bench you talk of overlooking the church in Orwell is a lovely spot, as is the Clunch Pit behind it.

From here I continued on up Orwell High Street, onto Barrington Road and then into Barrington itself. Stopped here for a lunch and a beer at the Royal Oak pub, which was superb. I'd never been into Barrington before and it's really picturesque. From here I cycled out into Haslingfield before cutting back along the Barton/Haslingfield Road to the A603. I then cut back right along the bridleway over the M11 and into Grantchester, from where I went along the Meadows and back into Cambridge.

Really enjoyable bike ride, a few hills but for the most part not too taxing. It seems to incorporate a few things to see along the way too (that you mention on other rides here) - the clunch pit, the huge satellites, Grantchester of course - definitely worth a try!
